Families,
Welcome to Universal City United Methodist Preschool. The teachers and I welcome you and your family and look forward to a fabulous time of working and growing together as one big, happy family.
One of the goals here is for your child to feel like preschool is truly a second home.
Here at UCUMP, the children learn through play, and ample time for play is allowed, which is beneficial for academic growth, socialization, and emotional maturity. Your child will be provided with a safe, age appropriate environment where positivity is met at every turn and where discovery and inquisitiveness are fostered.
Chapel takes place bi-monthly, we have Trike Days, Music & Movement time, and we participate in two community service projects each year.
Please call, or email for more information!
Sara Holland, Preschool Director
Sara Holland has been on staff at UCUMC as the Christian Ministry Director since 2020, and is the director of the preschool. She grew up as a military child, only settling in San Antonio to attend college. She holds BAs in both History and in Elementary education and a Masters in Teaching from Trinity University. She and her husband have been married for 24 years and are raising 4 daughters and 3 dogs. Please don’t ask who is better behaved. When not working, she particularly enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading while sitting on the beach, and traveling. In reality, she spends her time away from work going to HEB, doing laundry, and generally trying to keep her house from falling apart. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve the members and friends of such a loving and supportive preschool and faith community.
Mrs. Aniol is one of our exceptional Pre-K teachers. She holds a degree in education from Wayland Baptist University and has over 20 years of experience in early childhood education. She began teaching Pre-K at UCUMP in 2012. She says that she finds her greatest joy in sharing in her students' accomplishments with them. When Mrs. Aniol isn't teaching, she's reading, traveling with her husband and son, and trying out new recipes.
Mrs. Mendez teaches Pre-K and has been at the preschool since 2003. Her wisdom for all things preschool is evident daily. Mrs. Mendez is the "acting director" whenever the director is out. She holds an early childhood/elementary education degree from Texas State University. She is married and has two children who both attended the preschool. Mrs. Mendez loves escaping to her beach bungalow at North Padre Island. She loves the beach life!

After 15 years of working as a Licensed Professional Counselor in San Antonio and surrounding communities, she put her career on pause to stay home and raise her three children, two of whom attended UCUM Preschool. She cherished her four years as a parent at UCUMP so much that when her youngest child started public school the same year the preschool needed to fill a teaching assistant position, she felt called to come be part of the program that gave so much to her children and family. She feels blessed to spend her days with 3, 4, and 5 year olds. When not working she is cooking, cleaning, chauffeuring, PTCing, playing dolls and nerf wars, talking about dinosaurs and unicorns, and watching her teenager play football and run track.
Mrs. Tennis graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Early Childhood- 4th grade, a minor in literacy, and an ESL certification. NAEYC stands for the National Association for the Education of Young Children. 30 years ago, UCUM Preschool became accredited and still chooses to work hard to retain this accreditation. A NAEYC preschool promotes positive relationships for all children and adults to encourage each child's sense of individual worth. It implements a curriculum that fosters all areas of child development and uses developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate and effective teaching approaches. It employs staff that has the necessary qualifications, knowledge, and professional commitment necessary to promote children's learning. We are proud to be a NAEYC accredited preschool.
